This project involved six schools, which worked together to write a story. The classes were from all over North America.  Each class was assigned a one week period in which to write their paragraph and email to the coordinator during the assigned week. Then the coordinator sent that paragraph to class two whom then wrote paragraph two and so on..... until the story was completed with paragraph 6. The classes were:

Students from PS307 had researched and written reports on their favorite animals. They were very excited because the  big day had finally arrived. Today, they were going to the zoo to actually see their favorite animal. For many students this would be their first trip to the zoo. After checking to make sure everyone had a lunch, taking restroom and water fountain breaks, the students were ready to board the school bus.

when one of the student's forgot  their lunch. The student's name was Mary. Once they got to the zoo it was time to eat and Mary was starving. The monkey saw Mary crying and snuck out of his cage. He then saw a hotdog truck. A hotdog was falling off the truck. He caught it before it hit the ground and gave it to Mary. The monkey started to walk away when Mary realized a note fell out of her hotdog. When she read the note, it said

..."Read this aloud", "Sraeppasid dna levart". Mary spins around and around, then she disappears into thin air. She vanishes without a trace. Mary lands in a mysterious place crammed with monkeys. The entire place looks like a jungle. There are many bananas everywhere. The monkeys apprehend her because she is trespassing. They take her to their huge dungeon. Mary must escape before her class finds out she is missing. "Where, oh where is that sympathetic monkey?", said Mary dreadfully in a small, but serious voice. All of a sudden, she notices a burrow in the ground, but it is too late. Mary falls into the gap. The burrow takes her to...

?... the closed drawbridge of a massive, monkey castle.  The towers of the castle were monkey ears, the drawbridge was a monkey's mouth and the circular windows stared at her with menacing, monkey eyes.  The walls were covered in brown
moss, identical to monkey fur.   Mary was determined to get into the castle, but first she had to find a way to cross the bubbling moat.  She began walking around in circles (because that's how she does her best thinking), biting her nails, hoping to come up with a brilliant idea.  Suddenly she slipped on a rotten banana peel.  Angry and embarrassed she picked up a stone and threw it at the castle.  It hit a secret button and the huge drawbridge tumbled down.  She entered the castle
and gasped. Her classmates were chained together carrying dinner plates loaded with bananas.  Some of  her other classmates were nervously scrubbing the floors with tiny
toothbrushes while monkey guards barked orders at them.  Mary shrieked . . . there sitting on the throne in front of her, she saw . . .

... King Kong scratching his belly. He had big brown teeth, yellow eyes and huge hairy feet. He was giving orders to his new slaves.  "Give me more bananas! " he demanded to some.  "Keep on washing and scrubbing!" he barked to the others.  When he noticed Mary, King Kong boomed, "Seize Her!"  The monkey guards grabbed Mary while she pleaded, "Please, let my friends go!" and began to try and slap, kick and claw her way free from the guards. She was uncontrollable!  King Kong yelled, "Sedate her!" One guard immediately produced a shot and quickly injected it into Mary's right arm. Within a few seconds she went to sleep.  When she woke up ...

...the first thing she saw was her mom! "Your'e going to be late for your field trip to the zoo," mom said. "But mom, I just went to the zoo and all these strange things were happening! A monkey gave me a hotdog and I went to
this strange monkey castle.." exclaimed Mary. Mom interrupted, "Mary did you hit your head again? Did you eat too much before you went to bed? Anyway, it is time to get up and get ready for school. Hurry, or you will be late and
miss the trip."  Mary quickly got up and got ready. She ran out the door so she wouldn't miss the bus. When she got to school she realized she had forgotten her lunch! She didn't worry because her friend said she would share her lunch with Mary.  At the zoo, Mary's class toured through all the exhibits. When Mary was infront of the monkey cages a cute little monkey walked up to the cage and
tried to hand her a hotdog. Mary smiled and quickly said "No thanks!" She turned to leave and saw a note and a rotten banana peel on the ground.  Mary was tempted to pick up the note, but she decided one regular field trip
to the zoo was all she needed for today!
